X-Men 130 (1980) - CGC 9.4 - First Appearance of Dazzler
Published in February 1980, X-Men #130 is a key issue in the Uncanny X-Men series, most notable for introducing the mutant pop star Dazzler (Alison Blaire). Created by writer Chris Claremont and artist John Byrne, this issue is part of the iconic Dark Phoenix Saga.
In the story, the X-Men travel to a Manhattan nightclub while searching for their teammate Kitty Pryde, leading them to Dazzler, a disco singer with the mutant ability to convert sound into light and energy. Originally conceived through a partnership between Marvel and Casablanca Records as a cross-promotional music/comic book project, Dazzler’s design and musical persona were heavily influenced by the disco craze of the late 1970s.
Though the record deal fell through, Dazzler remained in Marvel continuity, eventually receiving her own solo series. Over time, she evolved from a disco-themed character into a more grounded and complex hero, even joining teams like the X-Men and Excalibur.
